Nine Months Old

Best we could get with the sign...this girl wants everything in her hands

Audrey's Nine Month Stats:
Weight: 18 lbs  (30th percentile)
Length: 27 1/4 inches (40th percentile)
Head Circumference: 16 7/8 inches (15th percentile)

About this 9 month old:
  • A nap HATER (unless she is in your arms): She fights taking a nap every day with serious determination. She stands in her crib and screams for at least 45 min, until she gets so exhausted she will sit down, bend at the waist and pass out with her forehead on her shins. Daycare, who can't let her scream with other kids who do sleep, has succumbed to allowing her to sleep in their arms every now and then so she gets enough sleep to function. Its a good thing they lover her cuddles. So...needless to say, she doesn't get much sleep during the day unless its in a stroller or a car.
  • Pulls herself up: It used to be a slow struggle to pull up. Now it's a breeze and she can stand for hours (not always a good thing, reference above bullet...) and bend down to pick up a toy while keeping her balance.
  • 2 New Teeth: Two top teeth have joined the party for a total of 4.
  • A Talker: We have a lot of 'conversations' that involve quite a bit of babbling. In the past week, she has started really screeching and playing with the different volumes of her voice.  There is a lot of mamamama and dadadadada, but it doesn't seem to have any meaning yet.

  • Big Eater:  She is turning into a really good eater. We've tried everything from avocado to yogurt to chicken to prunes to squash to pasta, with mostly success. Her favorite is anything she can feed herself. She kicks her feet in joy while stuffing her cheeks full like a chipmunk.
  • Loves to Bath: All of a sudden, this girl loves taking baths. She loves splashing around and playing with her blowfish 'basketballs'. The only dilemma is there are three of them and she only has two hands. Her problem solving skills shine as she bends down to attempt picking up the third with her mouth.

  • Loves That Thumb: She'll cuddle on a shoulder, suck her right thumb and use her left hand to pull and twist the hair behind her left ear. It's really lovely when she does this in her highchair after eating, hands filthy with avocado or something equally as messy.
  • Hat Hater: The girl who has worn a hat just about everyday of her life, now tears anything we put on her head off in protest. Could be a cold couple months for this munchkin.
  • Intrigued by Sark:  She still climbs, pulls, and laughs at Sark all day long. But she is also becoming more aware of the strength of this pup that gets overly excited and gets a little uneasy with his jumping around. Her eyes never leave him, but she ensures she is clinging to mom or dad.
  • A Momma's Girl: The attachment phase has started. If I'm around, she wants to be in my arms or crawling all over me.
  • Loves Laughing at Dad...

Photo Practice

We got a new lens for Christmas...so I've been taking pictures like crazy. Like I said, I'm practicing so the quality of pictures isn't great (yet). Good thing I have a cute subject(s)!

Cousins

With cousins Stella and Grace - couldn't get a good one of all of them looking or happy. You can tell who has become a master at modeling - Gracie never flinched with two upset babies by her side.
(And don't worry, Audrey spit up all over the Cougar sweatshirt her grandpa gave her...unfortunately, it is a REALLY nice sweatshirt...)

First Christmas

Traveling home for Christmas is always so hectic. Add an 8-mo old who is teething and attached to mom and the exhaustion level is ten-fold. But it was so fun to make the rounds to see the whole family and let Audrey show off all the new skills she has perfected in the last few months (crawling, pulling herself up, eating solids...). We had a wonderful holiday - our first Christmas in pictures...
