500 Year Flood

We were out of town when the massive rain and flash flooding hit Colorado. Sadly, we lost Josh's Uncle Lowell 3 weeks ago and were home with family to celebrate and say goodbye to a great man.
While in Washington, we received a call from our neighbor telling us they had about a foot of water in their basement, meaning we did too. Although it has been a huge headache, a lot of work, and an unexpected expense, we luckily did not lose anything irreplaceable and everyone we know is safe.

Pictures sent to us of our basement
We have a lot of people to thank who have helped us with the recovery - our neighbors for ensuring our house and dog were safe while gone; the Sandkuhlers who came over to grab what they could and do our laundry; the Beaujons and the Ballards who although had flood damage themselves, were here doing some pretty dirty work cleaning out the basement; the Dunkins for helping to watch Audrey while we were in the midst of it all. And thank you to the out of town family and friends as well for the moral support and check-ins.
What we came home to...water had mostly drained back out, but a soppy, smelly, filthy mess was left behind.
(The carpet was white)

We are now just bleaching and drying everything out. Likely, we will take our time rebuilding.  Overall, we feel very fortunate and are taking it all in stride because this was quite the disaster and many people around us were not so lucky.
