Camping Great Sand Dunes

Well, even though our initial camping experience last summer with a 3 month old was a complete fail, we decided to try again. We took a family camping trip over 4th of July weekend to the Great Sand Dunes National Park with friends. And it turned out that Audrey is at a great age and was a perfect weekend.
Camping involves all of Audrey's favorite things. She was able to be with mom and dad and Sark outside all day and close by at night. We ate every couple of hours, even some treats here and there. And there was dirt and rocks to dig in and eat. Everything she ever wants. She slept great in a pack-n-play in the tent and was a trooper in the backpack on hikes. She even made the traffic-extended 7 hour trek home without a meltdown...although it did require mom to be in the back seat singing and constantly entertaining for the last 3 hours.
She did come away with her first black eye (falling and hitting the bench of the picnic table), a scraped knee (running on concrete) and 5 bug bites on her head (the girl won't wear a hat).
All in all, it was a fun and successful weekend at one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen.

Testing out the headlamp with Sara
Thanks for the headlamp, dad.

Mom took Audrey for the initial, smaller dunes

Dad got her for the big ones
We even wore Sark out - not an easy task

Wasn't too happy about the sand

A busy day.
